Microsoft said that Russian intelligence was most likely behind the hacker attacks on Ukrainian and Polish transport and logistics companies last month.

The hacks “really hurt” transport and logistics companies in Poland and Ukraine, a Microsoft spokesman told CNN. The amount of damage is unknown.
Microsoft attributes these hacks to a group that works on behalf of the military intelligence game of Russia. It was this group that caused power outages in some parts of Ukraine in 2015 and 2016.
This is a rare public example of alleged Russian-related hacking that has damaged a NATO member state. The exposure could be a concern in Washington and European capitals. Allies who support Ukraine against Russia’s invasion may face greater cyberattacks from Moscow, the newspaper writes.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said a cyberattack could trigger a NATO collective defence provision that requires all Allies to protect another member. But that never happened, and it’s unclear exactly what NATO’s threshold in cyberspace is for an answer. A NATO spokesman did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The game-related attacks signal an “increased risk to organizations that directly supply or transport humanitarian or military aid to Ukraine,” researchers from Microsoft said in a statement.
The Russian Embassy in Washington did not respond to a request for comment on Microsoft’s statement.
During Russia’s February invasion, another suspected Russian hack destroyed the data of two Ukrainian government contractors present in Latvia and Lithuania, but analysts viewed it as collateral rather than intentional action.
