CIA Director Bill Burns arrived in Kyiv to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and his intelligence colleagues on Tuesday, a U.S. official said.
Details
According to a U.S. official, Burns was safe at the U.S. embassy during Russian missile strikes across the country, including explosions that shook the capital.
Burns’ trip to Kyiv followed Monday’s meeting in Ankara, Turkey, with his Russian intelligence counterpart Sergei Naryshkin — and it’s the second known case in less than a month that the CIA director visits Kyiv.
While there, according to the official, Burns “discussed the U.S. warning, which he handed over to the head of the Russian SVR not to use nuclear weapons, and reaffirmed the U.S. commitment to support Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression.”
