In one of the Russian cruise missiles that were shot down over Kyiv on November 17, a block was “screwed”, which is an imitator of a nuclear warhead. Writes about it Defense Express with reference to its own sources .
Details
The publication explains that for this strike, the Russian military took at least one Kh-55 from its nuclear arsenal, “unscrewed” a nuclear warhead from this missile and put an empty “disc” instead.
Typically, Russia used Kh-555 missiles to strike Ukraine , a non-nuclear modification of the Kh-55 missile, converted into a conventional warhead with classic explosives. And the Kh-55 is a Soviet missile that was originally developed as a carrier of nuclear weapons.
As noted, conventional and nuclear warheads differ from each other, so the Russians could not insert an ordinary warhead into the Kh-55 and launched a missile with an empty “disc”.
According to the experts with whom the publication talked, in order to ensure the implementation of the order “from above” and the mass nature of the strike, Kh-55 missiles with a nuclear warhead imitator were used. This option may indicate that Russia’s stockpile of cruise missiles is “approaching a critical point.”
Another explanation given by experts is that the Russians specifically used the Kh-55 with an “empty” imitator of a nuclear warhead to create the effect of overloading Ukraine’s air defense.
Recall
On November 17, British intelligence reported that Russia was depleting stockpiles of missiles for massive strikes on Ukraine.
