In the UK, a prototype pregnancy test with a tactile indicator was presented. It is designed for the visually impaired and blind women.
Instead of one or two strips, silicone bubbles indicate the result. After getting urine, their first row appears. If pregnancy has occurred, after a while the second rises, writes The Wall Street Journal.
Why such tests are important?
When using a regular test, blind women should ask outsiders to report the result. The development of RNIB allows you to know it by touch, thus maintaining privacy. After all, pregnancy can be undesirable.
Having taken the usual test, a blind woman is not even the first to know whether she is expecting a child or not.
One girl said she asked outsiders to interpret the result of her test. He was negative, and she was told, “Well, it’s probably for the better, isn’t it?” That is, the girl had to comprehend the person’s reaction before considering a possible pregnancy,
– said the head of RNIB Eleanor Southwood.
A prototype test with a tactile indicator was created by London designer Josh Wasserman. Initially, he planned to do a test that would report pregnancy with an audible signal. But after talking to blind women, he abandoned the idea. The girls said family members could hear the signal and ask awkward questions.
