Yesterday’s and today’s shelling caused damage to buildings on the territory of Zaporizhzhia NPP, however, these destructions are not critical for nuclear safety. This was announced today by the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Mariano Grossi.
IAEA experts confirmed that dozens of explosions were heard today near and on the territory of ZNPP.
Citing information provided by the plant management, the IAEA team said that some buildings, systems and equipment at the ZNPP site were damaged, but so far none of them is critical for nuclear safety. There are no reports of casualties. IAEA experts are in close contact with the facility management and will continue to assess the situation and report on it.

“The news from our team yesterday and this morning is extremely disturbing. Explosions occurred on the site of this large nuclear power plant, which is completely unacceptable. Whoever is behind it, it should be stopped immediately,” Grossi’s CEO said.
He appealed to both sides of the conflict with a strong call to agree and introduce a nuclear safety and security zone around ZNPP as soon as possible. He stressed that in recent months he had conducted intensive consultations with Ukraine and Russia on the creation of such a zone, but so far the agreement has not been concluded.
