Details
As the head of the investigative department reported, in April of this year, proceedings were opened due to the illegal deprivation of liberty of the writer during the occupation of the Izyum district (Part 1 of Article 146-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
In October, Volodymyr’s father turned to the police. He was sure that one of the dead at the Izyum cemetery was his son.
“He said that on March 23, five people, probably “Innovators”, came to their house and conducted a search. Militants took the writer and his son – conducted a brutal interrogation with beatings and released them. The next day, two unidentified people came to their house in a car marked “Z” and took Volodymyr Vakulenko away by force. Since then, no one has seen him alive,” Bolvinov said.
The police learned that Vakulenko’s body had been lying on the street for more than a month after the murder.
“It is known from the witnesses who buried Ukrainians at the Izyum mass cemetery that on May 12, Russian military personnel approached them with instructions to bury the body of a man located near the village of Kapitolivka in the Izyum district. The witnesses noticed bullet holes in the body and shot documents of the Ukrainian writer. The body was on the street for more than a month,” the message reads.
