Russian propaganda does not have a clearly defined geography. For example, under the influence of the pro-Russian part of the Armenian diaspora, French politicians publicly began to draw strange parallels between the war in Ukraine and the conflict in the South Caucasus. Azerbaijan, which in accordance with international law is trying to restore its territorial integrity, is unexpectedly assigned the role of aggressor. Such statements can easily harm both Ukraine and the EU. Marian Zablotsky, a people’s deputy from the Servant of the People party, explains on channel 24 how distorted rhetoric in Karabakh is dangerous for Kyiv.

“The biggest thing that threatens Ukraine is the discrediting of the very concept of “sanctions”, – says the PEOPLE’s Deputy. – Because there are sanctions against the oil and gas sector in Russia and Iran. These two countries border Azerbaijan and actually pose a threat to the country.”
According to Zablotsky, it is completely wrong to put them in one row.
“Azerbaijan is the main threat to Iran, where a significant part of Azerbaijanis live. It should be understood that Iran is very worried about this and, oddly enough, finances Armenia. And after we saw that Iranian drones were bombing Ukrainian cities, we should not choose or even think. We must support Azerbaijan.”
Thus, the French are trying to cut off their own economic and energy dependence on the Kremlin by trying to divert military and financial assistance from Ukraine, where Moscow suffers defeat after defeat.
“The attack on Azerbaijan hits Ukraine in two cases. Firstly, it discredits the concept of “sanctions”, and secondly, it negates the rule on the invariability of the UN border. Somehow, Karabakh as a territory stands out in this aspect, – explains the deputy. – Ukraine has always taken a principled position on this issue. After all, if there are exceptions, then how to prove that Transnistria is Moldova, Ossetia is Georgia, Crimea is Ukraine, and for some reason Karabakh is suddenly Armenia. Karabakh is Azerbaijan. And we must continue to defend this position systematically.”
The history of the conflict in Karabakh proves that Baku’s positions are far from aggression and they are politically closer to Kyiv.
It is worth recalling that back in the 90s, Azerbaijan lost 20% of its territories as a result of the military efforts of Armenia and Russia. At that time, as in Ukraine, thousands of civilian casualties were recorded. In addition, the population of Azerbaijan was also under rocket attacks from Russians and Armenians, and the scenario used in the Azerbaijani village of Khojaly is still compared with the long-suffering Ukrainian Bucha.
As for international law, Karabakh is still called the temporarily occupied territory of Azerbaijan in UN resolutions. Accordingly, parallels with Moscow’s aggression are unacceptable and unacceptable.
