Stoltenberg said that although the war is likely to move into a calmer phase in winter, both sides will seek to regroup and re-arm their forces, so NATO countries should continue to support Ukraine.
“There are no conditions (for a diplomatic solution) right now,” Stoltenberg said Wednesday at the Global Boardroom FT event, adding that Russia shows no signs of wanting a peaceful end to the war. “The more we want a peaceful solution, the more urgent is the need to provide military support to Ukraine,” said the NATO Secretary General.
“Russia is trying to freeze” the conflict, Stoltenberg said, before “launching a larger offensive in the spring.”
“Now Ukraine has momentum,” Stoltenberg said, adding that the capitals of NATO countries are “constantly considering what systems (weapons) we want to supply” to Kyiv.
