Deputies of the Uman City Council supported and voted “for” the ban on the activities of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate on the territory of the Uman city territorial community. This was announced by the mayor of Uman Irina Pletneva .
Details
City deputies supported a petition to ban the activities of the UOC-MP on the territory of the Uman community, as well as an appeal to the Verkhovna Rada with a proposal to ban the ROC MP and all its structural units on the territory of Ukraine.
It should be noted that the day before, the Security Service of Ukraine visited the UOC-MP in Cherkasy region, in particular to the Department of the Uman-Zvenigorod Diocese and the St. George’s Convent, which is located in the Uman district.
Recall
The Moscow Patriarchate had a considerable influence in Uman. The main temple of the city – St. Nicholas Cathedral and still belongs to the UOC-MP.
The clergy of the UOC-MP even participated in political life. Thus, in 2012, the then Archbishop of Uman and Zvenigorod Panteleimon was part of the election campaign for the then candidate for people’s deputies from the “Party of Regions” Anton Yatsenko.
It should be noted that, despite repeated calls to draw up a mandate, Yatsenko continues to work in the Verkhovna Rada. We would like to add that now the MP is being asked to check for collaborationism.
