The EU ambassadors could not agree on the 9th package of sanctions against the Russian Federation. According to Polish Radio, there was too much disagreement. The next meeting will take place on December 12 .
Details
There is no agreement on further EU sanctions against Russia, the publication writes. According to media reports, the reason is that there are too many exceptions to these sanctions.
“There were proposals to both soften the 9th package of sanctions and mitigate the already adopted ones. This happened to the surprise of countries, especially those “hawks”, that is, countries that want to hit Russia as hard as possible with sanctions, which even agreed to make this 9th package a little more modest, but so that it can be quickly adopted,” the message says.
However, according to the publication, several countries – Germany, France and Spain, Italy, Belgium believe that at the national level, individual countries can independently decide to defrost the blocked assets of those persons against whom sanctions have already been imposed. There are 1200 people on this list, the publication adds.
The media does not rule out that the reason for the lack of agreement is too many exceptions proposed for the draft ninth package of sanctions.
In addition, according to the publication, Hungary demanded the exclusion of members of the Russian government from the EU black list.
Meanwhile, Sweden, to the surprise of many, stood up for Roskomnadzor, which is tightening censorship loops in Russia, the media adds.
