Father Ivan Rybaruk, the rector of the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine in Kryvorivna, Ivano-Frankivsk Region told that the Hutsul carol of the Verkhovyna region will become an intangible heritage of UNESCO’s cultural heritage.
“The question now is to make it a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Because last year Kosiv ceramics became such a property. Therefore, it already speaks for itself. I think that with God’s help we will bring this to a successful conclusion, and the whole world will know our carol. This will be an official recognition, “said Father Ivan Rybaruk.
Caroling begins after the Christmas Liturgy. Then men in keptars leave the church and line up. Some have Hutsul axes, trembitas, horns or violins in their hands.
After that, a festive procession around the church begins. A ring is formed around the temple.
The carol sounds differently: it subsides, then regains strength. Then a priest comes out of the church and blesses the carolers.
In general, according to Father Ivan Rybaruk, the celebration of Christmas is different from how this day is celebrated in Ukraine. It is best, says the priest, to come and hear the Hutsul supreme carol with your own ears.
Hutsul carols and dances were included in the national register of intangible cultural heritage of mankind by UNESCO.
