Details
The country’s Defense Ministry expects a major Russian offensive in Ukraine in early 2023. In the first scenario, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin aims to conquer the entire Donetsk and Luhansk regions, in the second – to completely capture the Ukraine.
It is expected that the conquest of Donetsk and Luhansk regions will begin in April 2023. According to the first scenario, Russia will focus on attempts to completely seize Donbas. At the same time, according to the analysis in the first scenario, tens of thousands of Belarusian servicemen would have marched to the Ukrainian border in the north. According to the German Ministry of Defense, this aims to divide Ukrainian troops. In this case, however, the Belarusian invasion should not be expected, NZZ reports, citing the document.
The second scenario describes the war on two fronts. “In this case, Russian troops would attack from Donbas, and Belarusian troops from the north. To cut off the supply of weapons from the west, Russian troops will try to advance to the Ukrainian-Polish border,” the article says.
However, this requires Russian general mobilization, quoted by the NZZ analysis. The West, which the German Ministry of Defense considers “quite unlikely for domestic political reasons.”
