Ukraine Portal Kyiv February 22, 2024 Traditionally brewed tea can affect our cognitive functions It helps us focus on the task at hand while remaining comfortable and calm. Society dictates that modern people drink coffee in the morning to cheer up, and tea in the evening to calm down. And if everything is more or less transparent with the influence of coffee, then it turns out that tea is not so simple.
How does tea affect mental abilities? In one study that used electroencephalography (EEG), people were divided into two groups. Participants in one group drank tea containing EGCG, and the other group was given a placebo of similar taste and color. After drinking tea, these subjects were put on caps with electrodes and asked to perform tasks. In the EEG, the scientists observed increased alpha, beta and theta activity in the ‘tea’ group, compared to the placebo group – these brain waves showing a state of calm and focus at the same time. The subjects themselves noticed calmness and reduced stress levels.
