Ukraine Gate- Kiev, March 4, 2024 –An earthquake occurred on the border of Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan on March 4, the Kazakh service of Radio Liberty reports.
The network of seismic stations of the National Scientific Center for Seismological Observations and Research of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kazakhstan recorded an earthquake 31 kilometers from Almaty on the territory of Kazakhstan on the border with Kyrgyzstan.
A five-magnitude tremor was recorded in Almaty. In populated areas of Kyrgyzstan, earthquakes were felt in the cities of Cholpon-Ata (4.5) and Karakol (3.5), as well as in the capital Bishkek (4).
Later, repeated aftershocks with a magnitude of two were registered in Almaty.
According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kazakhstan, the earthquake did not cause serious destruction or casualties, but caused panic among the population.
In Almaty, as a result of the tremors, some houses had broken windows and cracked walls.
In the city, classes were canceled in educational institutions, the subway was stopped. The authorities of Almaty deployed 384 points of reception of the population, people are asked to stay in the places of population gathering until the evening.
