Ukraine Gate- Kiev, March 4, 2024 – Prime Minister Denis Shmyhal stated in the annual press conference on the results of the government’s work for four years that the government is working to change the form of government, that is, reducing the number of ministries, by a third, and reducing the number of civil service employees.
We have already begun to do this, and 20,000 vacancies in the civil service have been reduced, Shmyhal said.
According to him, all auxiliary administrative functions should be concentrated in the so-called government center, which is currently being created.
“The required documents must also be prepared qualitatively and quickly for this or that ministry in terms of documentation,” the Prime Minister said.
The Prime Minister added that ministries must have a small number of highly experienced and highly qualified specialists who formulate appropriate state policy, and the center of government must provide appropriate legal steps and support in the areas of personnel and accounting.
Shmyhal points out that the government of Ukraine should be reduced to 15-16 ministries, as this is the optimal number for the government to be more coordinated and fast.
Shmyhal pointed out that we need to be less bureaucratic, and reduce a certain number of cadres.
At the same time, he indicated that he would not yet announce the ministries that will continue to operate and in what form.
The Prime Minister also said he was not ready to talk about any personnel changes in the government “at the moment”.
