The WorkStory literary competition accepts essays and short stories about work!
The international competition of essays and short stories “WorkStory: work in the focus of literature” invites Ukrainian prose writers aged 15 to 40+ to participate. Its organizers – “Ukrainian People”, the National Union of Writers of Ukraine, “Ukrainian Literary Newspaper”, the company “Jobian” and the creative agency “Balyandrasy” – offer authors to present essays and short stories, which would reveal the theme of work / work / profession.
Today it is fashionable to write about how to become successful. The organizers of the “WorkStory” competition offer to go beyond this direction and reveal the theme of work and work as deeply and widely as the genres of essays and short stories allow. You can tell about everything related to work / work / profession. Any. These can be both warm stories about ordinary workers, whose work few people think about, and stories about famous professionals – masters in any field. Write interesting stories about your relatives and friends (and about fictional characters), as well as about the lives of Ukrainian labor migrants.
Nominations
Works of art can be sent to one of the nominations – “Essay” or “Novel”, in each of which will be awarded the first three places. For 15-18-year-old participants, the same nominations are placed in a separate age category.
The jury
Well-known writers, editors and literary critics will evaluate the participants: Lyubko Deresh, Myroslav Dochynets, Olga Ruda, Oleg Solovey, Nadiya Humeniuk, Yulia Berezhko-Kaminska, Olga Sukhomlyn (Olkhova). Litosvita program director Svitlana Pryvalova and KMAN director Iryna Polishchuk were also included in the jury of the 15-18 years nomination.
Terms of participation
Authors of Ukraine and the Ukrainian diaspora aged 15 to 40+ are invited to participate. Texts must be sent in Ukrainian (one from the author) up to 15 thousand characters (with spaces), which are not marked by victories in other literary competitions.
Works must be in the text editor Word on e-mail. mail [email protected]. Also, a fragment of the work (any, up to 1000 characters) each author must post on his Facebook page, be sure to tag: #National_Union_of_Writers_of_Ukraine, #Ukrainian_people, #Ukrainian_Literary_Newspaper, #Jobian, #Balyandrasy.
Evaluation
The jury will evaluate the works on a 10-point scale, taking into account the originality of the idea, literary skill of the author, logical presentation, correctness, etc. A separate parameter that will be considered by the jury as advisory hashtags. 100 “likes” give the participant a conditional 1 extra point. The number of “likes” will be counted on March 2. Everything that will be posted by social network users after this date will not be taken into account.
The beginning of acceptance of works – January 1, 2021, the end – March 1, 2021. Announcement of results – after April 15, 2021, but not later than May 1, 2021.
