Indonesia will extend the entry ban for foreign nationals for another 14 days for fear of spreading a new strain of coronavirus.
Indonesian President Joko Vidodo has agreed to extend the ban on the entry of foreigners. It is currently valid from 1 to 14 January.
“We will extend it for 14 days,” said Economic Coordinator Airlangga Hartarto.

Earlier, the government decided to ban foreigners from entering the country due to concerns about the new strain of COVID-19 and “its rapid spread,” according to the country’s Foreign Ministry.
Despite the massive outbreak in Indonesia, there are still no reports of a new strain of the virus. As of Sunday, Indonesia had recorded 828,026 positive cases of COVID-19.
As of Monday morning, January 11, almost 50 million people in the world had recovered from an infection caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus.
A total of 90,260,464 people have been infected with COVID-19 worldwide, of whom 49,980,619 have recovered. The death toll has risen to 1,934,605.
