“This find is the largest coin hoard of the late Middle Ages ever found in the Pest region,” the Ferenczi Museum Center said in a statement.
Among the coins, the most ancient is the coin of the 2nd century – a silver denarius of Lucius Vera, the emperor of the Roman Empire (161-169 years). Also found were several gold coins from the times of the Hungarian king Matthias I Corvinus (1458-1490) and silver coins from the reign of Vladislav II Jagelon (1490-1516) and Lajos II (1516-1526).
At that time, this money could buy seven horses, and today you can buy an elite car.
Scientists have suggested that the locals might have hidden the treasure before the attack of the Ottoman Empire and the famous battle of Mogach, which took place in 1526.
