The British online publication The People’s Movies has included two films created with the support of the State Cinema in the TOP-20 best horror films of 2020.
According to the press service of the State Cinema , this is Dmytro Tomashpolsky’s film “Stranger” and the Ukrainian-Czech-Slovak film by Vaclav Marul “Painted Bird”.
The People’s Movies is one of the top ten British movie blogs . “Stranger”, who took 18th place in the ranking of the publication, was called a dizzying and exciting Ukrainian science fiction detective. And “Painted chick”, which is in 11th place, is defined as “a disturbing biopsy of the nature of true evil,” – said in a statement.
As reminded in the State Cinema, the film adaptation of Jerzy Kosinsky’s bestseller “Painted Bird” was released in Ukrainian cinemas on December 10, 2020. The world premiere of the film took place as part of the main competition of the 76th Venice International Film Festival. Vaclav Marul’s film was shortlisted for the 92nd Academy Awards in the “International Feature Film” category from the Czech Republic. The film received 10 awards from the Czech Film Academy and was nominated for the European Film Academy Award for Best European Film. In addition to Venice, the film was also presented at Class A film festivals in Tokyo, Tallinn, Cairo, Goa and the Toronto Film Festival.
Dmytro Tomashpolsky’s film “Stranger” was selected for the official competition programs of 20 international genre film festivals, where it won 11 awards, including awards for best film, best direction, best screenplay, best artistic solution, best cinematography, best production director. . The world premiere of the film took place on September 21, 2019 in the competition program of the Seoul International Film Festival (South Korea), the European one – in the competition program of the Haapsalu Horror & Fantasy Film Festival (Estonia) in April 2020. “Foreign” will be released in Ukraine in 2021.
