President Volodymyr Zelensky called on Ukrainians to learn the lessons of past centuries and never forget the saying: to be strong, you must be united, as he indicated in his congratulations on the Day of Unity.
“We must learn from the lessons of past centuries and never forget: to be strong – you must be united,” the president said. To be defiant, you must be strong, enough splits. It is important to remember that Catholicism is not only related to the land. From the oldest dreams of our people – about unity – the basic dream was born.”
But this cannot be achieved once and for all. This is a permanent job, and the president emphasized that “this is a daily movement.”
According to him, the dream of unity is not a thing in the past, it is not an ideological framework from above, and it is not an achievement that can be simple. This is necessary to achieve a common result.”
Zelensky recalled a quote about the unification of the Ukrainian People’s Republic and the Western Ukrainian People’s Republic, which declared 102 years ago: “The parts of a united Ukraine that have been torn apart for centuries are merging together”.
It is worth noting that the head of state is convinced that these words evoke a wide range of feelings, namely – the joy of the great unification not only of the lands or territories, but of the unification of Ukrainians, the pride of our ancestors who implemented the law of reunification, and with it – the eternal dream of all fighters for a united and united Ukraine.
At the same time, the president believes that these words are unfortunate because the statesmen lack the wisdom and understanding to maintain an independent Ukraine and the pain, because after a hundred years the Crimea and part of Donbas separated from a united Ukraine.
However, he added also gives confidence that in the future we will be able to overcome everything and together we will become innovators to do a new unification.
At the same time, Zelensky indicated that this year we are celebrating the Day of Unity with a feeling of deep sadness and mourning for our fellow citizens who perished in the Kharkiv fire.
He stressed, in this regard, that we are unfortunately united, not only by happiness, but by the tragic events as well.
In the same context, he said, “Every day, especially today, we must unite, support each other, stand brother to brother, shoulder to shoulder, let us protect our Ukraine and unite, in joy. And in melancholy. And let the handsome Dnieper water be the only thing that divides us. Happy Reunion, great and strong people.”
January 22 marks the Day of the Unity of Ukraine.
Whereas, on this day in 1919, the Law on Unification of the Ukrainian People’s Republic and the Western Ukrainian People’s Republic was declared.
