In connection with the fire, which resulted in numerous casualties, January 22 was declared a day of mourning in the city of Kharkiv.
The corresponding order was signed by the secretary of the Kharkiv city council Igor Terekhov.
Today, state flags and flags of Kharkiv will be lowered in the city on the buildings and structures of local governments, enterprises, institutions, and organizations.
Also, all entertainment and concert events and sports competitions have been canceled.
What happened the day before?
On January 21, a fire broke out on the second floor of a two-story apartment building in Kharkiv, previously converted into a home for the elderly “Golden Time”. Initially, 13 people were reported dead, but later the number rose to 15.
Police have already detained the heads of an illegally operating Kharkiv home for the elderly.
