The adviser to the Minister of Internal Affairs Ivan Varchenko announced that over the next three to four years, 600 cameras for automatic photo and video recording of traffic violations will be installed on Ukrainian highways.
“We have installed 55 cameras in Kiev and Kiev region. In the future, 600 cameras will be installed throughout the country within 3-4 years, ”Varchenko said.
Also, the advisor announced some statistics. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, up to 150 thousand road accidents are recorded annually in Ukraine. 3.5 thousand Ukrainians die in them. The cause of 30% of them is speeding. Another 20% of accidents occur due to violations of the rules of maneuvering and 10% – due to the fault of drunk drivers.
“This “bloody harvest” is reaping a speed violation. That is, where you need to drive 50 km / h plus the permitted 20, a person drives 180 km / h, because he thinks that he has a good car and he is a skilled driver at the age of 19,” said Varchenko.
The representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs also recalled the Road Safety Strategy adopted by the government in December 2020. In accordance with it, by 2024, the death rate on the roads of Ukraine as a result of road accidents will decrease by at least 30%.
In 2021, UAH 2.4 billion will be allocated to implement this strategy. These funds are planned to be spent on the construction of roundabouts of a new type, lighting of pedestrian crossings, expansion of the automatic photo and video recording system and other measures that will ensure the safety of all road users.
