The coordinator of the working group on the development of the National Economic Strategy until 2030, Kirill Kryvolap, said during the discussion of the strategy on the topic “Support for creative industries and the hospitality industry” that Ukrainian enterprises operating in the field of hospitality and creative industries lost more than UAH 83 billion in nine months of 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
“These are actually the figures that make up our GDP losses last year due to the impact of the coronavirus crisis,” Kryvolap said.
He also clarified that in one weekend, the losses of these industries could be up to one and a half billion hryvnias.
“In this sector, there may be about 100 thousand jobs at risk, including 50 thousand self-employed,” the economist said.
Krivolap also added that the recovery of these industries is slow due to the migration of labor to other, more secure areas.
In turn, Minister of Culture and Information Policy Alexander Tkachenko announced his intentions to create a Council for the Development of the Creative Economy under the Cabinet of Ministers.
“We believe that the creation of such a platform will be a serious step to raise the weight and communication with the industries, and will allow us to develop proposals for solving problematic issues and stimulating the sphere,” Tkachenko said.
In addition, it is planned to create an Office for the Development of Creative Industries under the Ministry of Culture.
“Creation and maintenance of the Institute of Design. Among the functions of the Institute is to popularize design abroad and support Ukrainian designers,” Tkachenko added.
In addition, the ministry plans to develop a model for creative hubs and launch a pilot project. In such hubs, among other things, there will be modern technology, as well as mentoring programs, incubation of creative startups and investment pitches.
Among other things, the Ministry of Culture is planning to launch the state program “Folk arts and crafts” for four years. The first phase of this project will be the introduction of a register of folk art craftsmen, as well as the development and submission to the Verkhovna Rada of draft amendments to the legislation on folk art crafts.
