The decision of the Constitutional Tribunal of Poland on the almost complete ban on abortion has come into force.
In substantiating its decision, the Constitutional Tribunal ruled out serious malformations of the fetus or an incurable disease that endangered his life. In the decision, lawyers were guided by the rights and freedoms guaranteed by the constitution in the prenatal phase of life.
From now on, abortion is allowed in Poland only after rape or in case of threat to the mother’s life.
The decision outraged supporters of the All-Polish Women’s Strike movement with renewed vigor. They began to gather in protest groups and promised a mass strike.
The decision of the Constitutional Tribunal was to take effect on November 2, 2020. However, under pressure from mass protests, the government postponed its implementation.
The protests lasted more than one day and covered almost all cities in the country.
