Kiev. Ukraine. Ukraine Gate – January 30, 2021 – Local News
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy shared his opinion on politicians who opposed the holding of an all-Ukrainian referendum.
The head of state again spoke on one of the most important topics of the week in Ukraine. Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that not all politicians in the country agreed with the adoption of the law, which would open up the possibility of holding a popular referendum.
“Over the past week, I was quite struck by the fact how many politicians criticized the law on an all-Ukrainian referendum. This is the real fear. Do you know why they are afraid? Everything is quite banal. This is their key fear of people. This is the fear of the inevitability of the changes that happened in 2019. When very respectable figures after decades of “reign” in high offices instantly found themselves without power and influence, “Vladimir Zelensky explained.
The President noted that revanchist sentiments are still strong among political oppositionists. Some forces live with the hope of returning to the political Olympus. But the adoption of the law on a popular referendum could confuse the plans of these leaders.
“Now they live with only one cynical hope that supposedly it is possible to recoup and gather again with the” club of old friends “on the Pechersk hills in order to decide everything in the state for their own benefit and without asking the society. in fact, they cannot be sure of anything. A referendum is a weapon of society, allowing to cut off what does not correspond to the interests of the people. And to choose what the state should work for, “Vladimir Zelensky summed up.
We gave people a real opportunity to exercise a decisive influence on power. And not just once, but forever. And people can take advantage of this opportunity at any time. Therefore, friends, politicians, get used to it. Now you will always have to take into account that the last word will not be yours, but society.
