The volume of private transfers to Ukraine from abroad in December 2020 amounted to $ 1,129 million, which is $ 38 million more than a year earlier ($ 1,091 million), according to the data of the National Bank of Ukraine.
At the same time, in January-December 2020, the volume of transfers amounted to $ 12,121 million, which is 1.7% ($ 200 million) more than a year earlier ($ 11,921 million).
The NBU took into account in its statistics both official and unofficial channels for the receipt of money in Ukraine. In January-December 2020, $ 4,714 million was transferred to Ukraine through informal channels, which is $ 1,167 million less than in the same period a year earlier ($ 5,881 million).
According to the NBU, the growth of private transfers from abroad was one of the reasons for the strengthening of the hryvnia against the dollar in 2019. According to preliminary data from the NBU, the volume of private transfers to Ukraine from abroad in 2019 amounted to $ 12,017 million, which is 8.2% more than in 2018 ($ 11,111 million).
