Former world heavyweight champion according to the WBC and WBA, American boxer Leon Spinks has died at the age of 68.
For the past five years, Spinks has had prostate cancer, which led to his death. When the boxer died, his wife Brenda Glura Spinks was with him, the publication notes.
In addition to the World Cup, Spinks also won gold at the 1976 Olympics. But he gained his greatest popularity after his victory over Mohammed Ali in 1978.
Ali was then 36 years old. He was about to end his career and hoped to knock out Spinks. But it turned out differently, Spinsk won by a separate decision of the judges.
Later, a rematch took place between the boxers, in which Ali defeated the opponent by a unanimous decision of the judges. Three years later, Spinks ended his career. In total, he had 46 fights, 26 victories, 17 defeats, and 3 draws.
