Every year in the world, oncology is diagnosed in 300 thousand children under 19 years old.
Pediatric oncology is one of the leading causes of death in children and adolescents worldwide. In 2020, 1,442 cases of oncology were found in Ukraine in children under 14 years of age.
According to the World Health Organization, annually, oncology is diagnosed in 300 thousand children under 19 years of age. In 2020, 1,442 cases of oncology were found in Ukraine in children under 14 years of age. According to the Global Burden of Disease data in 2019, cancer took the lives of 446 children under the age of 14 in Ukraine.
The most common oncological diseases in children are:
in boys – 76.6% of all cases – leukemia, cancer of the brain and nervous system, malignant neoplasms of bones, soft tissues, and kidneys;
in girls – 85.3% of all cases – cancer of the brain and nervous system, leukemia, malignant neoplasms of the retroperitoneal space, soft tissues, and bones.
