He added, “The persecution of the Crimean Tatars raises great concern to the international community, as they face difficulties in obtaining education and meeting their religious needs, among which the international community must do more to protect them and protect their rights, and the coordinated response from the international community will give efficiency and effectiveness.”
Kiran stressed that supporting the Crimean Tatars and not recognizing the annexation is a moral and legal obligation.
The Turkish diplomat said, “This issue must remain at the top of the global agenda. Therefore, we support the initiative to establish the Crimean platform, and we hope this initiative will increase international support.”
The Deputy Minister stressed that the Crimean Tatars had suffered a lot throughout their history, as their deportation was one of the greatest tragedies of the twentieth century, and after years of wandering, they were able to return to their homes, but the annexation of 2014 brought new suffering.
He reminded that Turkey has become a haven for more than 3 million Crimean Tatars of the international community, so protecting their rights is very important for Turkey.
“Human rights are deteriorating, and Crimean Tatar leaders cannot visit their homeland,” he said.
The Turkish diplomat also mentioned that the United Nations has not dealt with many of the challenges that have arisen recently, including the Russian occupation of Crimea. He stressed that Turkey, the international community, did not recognize the annexation of Crimea, and called for Ukraine to restore its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
