39 illegal migrants drowned after two boats capsized off the Kerkenn Islands off the east coast of Tunisia on Tuesday.

The Coast Guard spotted boats near the Tunisian port of Sfax. Rescuers pulled 165 people from the sea. A spokesman for the Tunisian National Guard, Josem Eddin Jebabli, said that “the search for bodies and survivors is still ongoing”.
The defense ministry said 39 bodies had been found so far. Among the dead are children.
From the Mediterranean near Libya, the country’s coast guard rescued 197 illegal migrants and retrieved the bodies of two people.
