“On March 15, the IAEA confirmed that Iran had begun supplying natural (uranium fluoride) UF6 to a cascade of 174 IR-4 centrifuges installed at a fuel enrichment plant,” Reuters quoted the organization as saying.
It is noted that the Islamic Republic has indicated that it intends to install the second stage of improved centrifuges at the plant in Natanz. Thus, according to the IAEA on March 15, Iran uses 5,060 IR-1 centrifuges on 30 stages, 522 IR-2m centrifuges on three stages, and one stage with 174 IR-4 centrifuges.
Following the withdrawal of the United States from the nuclear agreement in 2018, Iran 2019 began to phase out its commitments on uranium enrichment and research, and in early January 2020 announced the completion of this process.
On December 2, 2020, the Council of Guardians of the Constitution of Iran approved a bill previously adopted by the Majlis, which obliges the government to increase the level of uranium enrichment. The law obliged the Cabinet of Ministers to suspend compliance with the provisions of the Additional Protocol under the nuclear agreement within two months of its entry into force. According to deputies, the measures included in the draft will help lift sanctions against the Islamic Republic.
Earlier, Tehran said it would resume its nuclear deal only after US sanctions were lifted.
