In 2020, 5 educational and practical centers for training construction students and 9 more centers for professions related to construction were established at the expense of the state budget. That is, the Government continues to systematically update the infrastructure in vocational education institutions, which will affect the attractiveness of working professions for young people. However, a well-trained specialist claims a competitive salary and comfortable working conditions, so the Ukrainian employer must be prepared for such a request.

Iryna Shumik, Director General of the Vocational Education Directorate of the Ministry of Education and Science, spoke about this during the round table “Decent wages, decent and safe working conditions on construction sites – a way to reduce the outflow of qualified personnel.” The event is organized by the Construction Chamber of Ukraine together with the Trade Union of Construction Workers and the Building Materials Industry.
“There are more than 100 vocational education institutions in Ukraine, where more than 30,000 students study. In recent years, these institutions have been actively updating workshops for practical training. So we have a new challenge: to improve the skills of teachers so that they can teach students to work with In this process, employers help us a lot, firstly, when purchasing equipment, they direct institutions to what is actually in production, and secondly, conduct training or workshops for teachers, explain how to work with This is a very important process, because without a trained teacher it is impossible to talk about quality student learning, “said Iryna Shumik.
Currently, vocational education institutions cooperate with 19 companies that are members of the Construction Chamber of Ukraine. Such a partnership allows students to undergo paid on-the-job internships and master the skills that the labor market really needs. Some companies provide graduates with a social package and additional social guarantees. For example, they provide loans for the purchase of housing.
In addition, within the framework of the competition of professional skills WorldSkills Ukraine in the competencies “Welding”, “Dry Construction”, “Plastering and facing works” employers are part of the jury. They evaluate the work of participants, determine the winners for each nomination. Quite often the winners of the competition receive an invitation to work or an internship at the company.
The Ministry of Education and Science and the International Labor Organization is developing 4 online courses for workers.
