Meetings will start between 10.00 and 12.00. This will be determined by the speaker of the Verkhovna Rada.
Extraordinary sessions were initiated by more than 150 people’s deputies. In addition to the Kharkiv issue, they will consider the appointment of the village head in the Lviv region, a draft resolution condemning the events on Bankova, the parliamentary powers of Igor Kolykhaev (today – the mayor of Kherson), and Alexander Skichno (head of the Cherkasy Regional State Administration) will be terminated.
The second meeting was initiated by the President. The people’s deputies will consider several bills.
On March 17, the profile committee of the Verkhovna Rada supported the appointment of the elections for the mayor of Kharkiv for October 31, 2021. We registered the decree on elections in Kharkiv on March 23.
Prior to that, the committee had already considered the issue of calling elections for the mayor of Kharkiv. However, they could not transfer it to the Verkhovna Rada for consideration, since they did not receive the necessary copies of documents from the Kharkiv City Council – the death certificate of the mayor Gennady Kernes or the decision of the Kharkiv City Council to recognize the mayor as dead, there was only a statement by the secretary of the city council Igor Terekhov.
Then the people’s deputies wrote to the city council an appeal with a request to terminate the powers of Gennady Kernes. At the session on February 24, the Kharkiv City Council voted for the early termination of the powers of the fifth mayor of Kharkiv. On March 3, the Verkhovna Rada received documents from the Kharkiv City Council.
