The social network Facebook froze the page of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro for violating the policy against spreading misinformation about COVID-19 by promoting a tool that he claims can cure the disease without evidence.

In January, Maduro called carvativir, an oral solution derived from thyme, a “miracle” drug that neutralizes the coronavirus without side effects. According to doctors, this statement is not confirmed by science.
Facebook has removed a video in which Maduro advertises the drug because it violates a policy against false claims, “that something can guarantee the prevention of COVID-19 infection or can guarantee recovery from COVID-19.”
We follow the guidelines of the WHO (World Health Organization), which states that there is currently no cure for the virus. Due to repeated violations of our rules, we also block the page for 30 days, during which it will be available only to reading, “a company spokesman told Reuters.
Maduro says in the video that “carvativir,” which he calls the “miracle drops” of 19th-century Venezuelan physician Jose Gregorio Hernandez, can be used for prophylactic and therapeutic purposes against the coronavirus.
A Facebook spokesman said page administrators had been notified of policy violations.
It is reported that Maduro’s account on the social network Instagram, owned by Facebook, will not be affected.
According to the publication, Maduro said in February that Facebook “censors” videos in which he shows “carvativir”. The Venezuelan president often uses social media, including Facebook and Twitter, and sometimes broadcasts speeches via Facebook Live.
In early March, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro announced that he and his wife had been vaccinated against COVID-19 with the Russian drug Sputnik V.
