I don’t like the word banishment, as it conveys the spirit of the Stalinist regime. But Ukrainian law provides for expulsion from the country, this is the right of any state.
Reznikov stressed during his remarks that the approach should be individualistic, and if Russian citizens reached the occupied territories legally, “perhaps there will be no questions for them.”
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the occupiers had displaced the Ukrainian population from Crimea, and transferred Russian citizens instead.
According to Russian statistics, about 100,000 Russians came to Crimea, the unofficial figure – the correct number is five times higher, the Foreign Ministry estimates that at least 500,000 Russians arrived on the peninsula.
