Kiev. Ukraine. Ukraine Gate – January 24, 2021 – Local News
Repeated local elections started in 14 regions of Ukraine on January 24 – deputies and chairmen of city, village, and settlement councils are elected.
In 13 regions deputies of the city (1 constituency district), settlement and village (29 constituencies) councils are elected.
In addition, in another region, Sumy region – the mayor of Konotop is re-elected. Mayor Oleksandr Luhovyi, elected on October 25, died of COVID-19.
Also elected chairmen of Ulanivska (Vinnytsia region), Murovanska (Lviv region) village councils, Broshniv-Osadska village council (Ivano-Frankivsk region).
The day before, the CEC indicated that the re-election of deputies and the chairman of the Ulanivka village council (Vinnytsia region) was under threat.
“We have received a decision from the Vinnytsia District Administrative Court declaring the resolutions of the Ulanivka village TEC illegal and revoking them. The rulings concern, among other things, the texts of ballots,” the department said.
They explained that:
The election process is continuous and cannot be canceled, suspended, or postponed. The reason for the suspension is the imposition of martial law or a state of emergency.
And if violations are detected during the preparation and conduct of elections, election commissions at all levels and government agencies should take all possible measures to ensure that the elections take place.
“Therefore, the Commission calls on all subjects of the election process to refrain from actions that jeopardize the exercise of citizens’ voting rights. We hope that Ulanivka Village TEC will take all necessary measures to elect and be able to be elected in Ulaniv tomorrow,” the CEC concluded.
