The Karassevern branch of the Union of Ukrainians of Romania (SUR) held a cultural event in its headquarters in Caransebes called “Life of the poet Stepan Tkachuk” in honor of this Ukrainian public figure in Romania, poet, translator.
The event presented the main aspects of the life and work of the writer.
Ivan Liber, head of the Karashsevern branch of the SUR, a music teacher, noted Tkachuk’s contribution to the development of not only Ukrainian but also Romanian literature and culture in general, as well as the Union of Ukrainians of Romania.
During the event, members of the Karashsevern branch read poems and performed several songs based on Tkachuk’s poems, the music for which was composed by composer Ivan Liber.
It is noted that Stepan Tkachuk was born on January 13, 1936, in the village of Danylo, Suceava County, Bukovyna. He wrote and translated dozens of poetry collections and prose books, for which he received many awards.
Tkachuk was the first chairman of the Union of Ukrainians of Romania and a member of the Romanian Parliament. Member of the Writers ‘Union of Romania and the National Writers’ Union of Ukraine.
Tkachuk died on July 27, 2005, in Bucharest.
