The sale of milk to small farmers and its sale to people living in cities is a problem not only in Volyn, but in the whole of Ukraine. After all, peasants no longer want to keep cows. Under the current conditions, it is not profitable – the cost of farming exceeds earnings. So in the last three years, the number of peasants keeping cows has tripled.
In recent years, the number of cows in villages has decreased significantly – it is simply unprofitable to keep them. Expenditures on the economy exceed earnings. There are no subsidies from the state, and no land is provided for grazing livestock in the village.
“I received the subsidy in 2018-2019. Nobody calls me now, I haven’t received anything for two years. The second problem is sales. Milk trucks are not accepted because it is unprofitable for them. We go to farmers’ markets to deliver milk, ”says Nadiya Skrytska from the village of Bukiv, Lutsk district.
And if small farmers from communities adjacent to Lutsk have the opportunity to sell milk at a farmer’s market in the city, then what to do with residents of remote Volyn villages? And for them, the biggest problem is where to sell milk. They say that it is far to go to the city, and farmers buy milk very cheaply.
Farmers claim that the agricultural sector is now dead. Peasants go abroad en masse. The situation is as follows: everything is done to ensure that there are no peasants on Volyn’s land.
“In small towns, we are faced with the fact that there is nowhere to sell milk. Reception points are disappearing, ”commented Ruslan Khomych, chairman of the Association of Farmers and Private Landowners of Volyn.
This is because it is a very time-consuming job. Fields are ruined in many villages. And people are left completely without a place to deliver milk, even for a small price.
Farmers say small farms need help. That is, to resume the sale of milk in remote Volyn villages at normal prices and to arrange trade places for peasants, where buyers can come and buy milk.
