Kiev. Ukraine. Ukraine Gate – January 30, 2021 – Agriculture
Potatoes from Lithuania have appeared in the vegetable departments of Ukrainian supermarkets. Belarusian and Romanian potatoes have been sold since the end of November. It is reported by CEO Ukrainian Association of Potato (UAVK) Oksana Ruzhenkova on his page on Facebook.
“At the end of 2020, the UACC warned that without the import of potatoes in the current marketing year, Ukraine is unlikely to meet the needs of the domestic market,” she wrote.
The reason is the reduction over the last 6 years of the share of industrial potatoes from 30% to 1.9% in the structure of total production.
According to the executive director of UAVK, such active import of potatoes is connected with loss both of separate regions of the state, and foreign markets, in particular the Customs Union.
The enterprises which owners showed readiness to change projects and to start first of all lines on production of mashed potatoes / flakes for satisfaction of needs of Ukraine are named.
