Journalists found rare photos of an unusual prototype of the first version of the Apple Watch. The main difference between the device and the final version is the design of the sensors on the back of the case.
User with the nickname Giulio Zompetti posted on Twitter photos of the engineering prototype of the original Apple Watch. Apple broke this watch for testing within the team that dealt with the product in 2014 – a year before the start of sales.
What a special prototype Apple Watch?
The first thing that catches your eye is the heart rate sensor. In the original Apple Watch, it has four cutouts for two LEDs and two photodiodes. Here on the case, there is one LED in the middle and two photodiodes on the left and right. On the side, there is only one cutout for the speaker, but the cutout under the microphone, as in the final version – double.
Another interesting detail is technical markings. Some elements on the body are printed in Myriad Pro font, as on all old Apple devices, and some – on one of the earlier versions of the San Francisco headset. Probably, Apple tested this way how different fonts will look on the body. An unknown icon is located in the upper left corner – information about it could not be found on the Internet.
Journalists 9to5Mac noticed the similarity of the appearance of the back cover with some dials Apple Watch. It is worth noting that this is not the most interesting prototype of the Apple Watch, information about which was made public.
In December 2020, photos of Apple’s earliest prototype smartwatch Apple Watch were published, which didn’t even have a Digital Crown wheel and a full-fledged operating system. The device was packed in a whimsical case, which was probably made in order to hide the appearance from prying eyes.
