A series of confrontations started the competition in the doubles grid of the Australian Open tennis championship.
Ukrainian Lyudmyla Kichenok together with Latvian Olena Ostapenko overcame the barrier of the first round. They beat Sabrina Santamaria and Makoto Ninomiya in two sets – 7: 6 (7: 2), 6: 4.
Nadiya Kichenok and Kateryna Bondarenko supported the successful start of Lyudmila, overcoming the resistance of Marie Buzkova and Sara Sorribes Tormo – 5: 7, 6: 4, 6: 0.
But Marta Kostyuk with Alexandra Sasnovich lost in the first round to Moni Barthel and Lin Jiu – 1: 6, 6: 3, 1: 6.
Only Elina Svitolina managed to overcome the first round of Ukrainian women in singles.
