A documentary film about the designer Pierre Cardin is released in Ukrainian cinemas. “House of Pierre Cardin” was filmed during the life of the designer in 2019 (Cardin died in December 2020 at the age of 98). The Cardin Foundation gave the team, led by filmmakers Todd Hughes and P. David Ebersole, exclusive access to his archives and empire; the feed also includes interviews with the designer himself and his friends and colleagues.
In the film, the designer talks about his life, work and habits. For example, to the question “what is your favorite pastime”, Cardin succinctly answers: “Work.” Also included in the tape are interviews with Sharon Stone, Naomi Campbell – both talk about their love for Cardin’s dresses and that he was a real “fighter” for diversity even when no one spoke about it; Guo Pei, Charlize Theron, and other friends and colleagues of Cardin.
Recall that Pierre Cardin began his career as a theater artist, then worked in the studio for Christian Dior, and in 1950 founded his own Fashion House. Among his main creations that have left their mark on the history of fashion: colored stockings, elongated jackets without a collar, a bubble dress, tight pipe trousers with buttons, high patent leather boots, stockings, and mini-sundresses with turtlenecks.
