Scientists have concluded, after studying the millennium cohort, that children who play video games are less likely to have depression.
As study author Arn Kandola noted: “We cannot say that video games improve mental health, but it was proven in our study that they are not harmful, but rather have many benefits. We also need to reduce the amount of time our children and adults spend sitting for their physical and mental health.”
During the study, the researchers took into account socioeconomic status, level of physical activity, bullying, and various emotional symptoms that could affect the results. And they found that boys who spent most of their time playing video games were 24 percent less depressed after three years than their co-boys who played video games less than once a month.
Scientists have also speculated that frequent use of social sites can contribute to feelings of isolation.
