On the night of February 21-22, 2014, Viktor Yanukovych and his accompanying delegation left the country and left Kiev first and went to Kharkiv, where, with Russian support, he tried, with Russian support, to hold a conference to separate the eastern regions from Ukraine. However, this plan failed.
Yanukovych and most of his cabinet members fled to Russia upon learning of this, on the morning of February 22, when thousands of activists, journalists, and volunteers arrived in Mezheeriya to verify information about Yanukovych’s escape.
There was no one in the dwelling, as piles of documents floated in the Dnieper River, and surveillance footage showed that several trucks of valuables were hastily transported from here at night.
In the afternoon, in a parliament session, the deputies accepted the resignation of Parliament Speaker Volodymyr Rybak and his deputy, Ihor Kaltnik, citing the collapse of the ruling coalition, while Alexander Turchinov was elected president of the renewed parliament.
At the same time, Parliament by a majority of 328 votes supported a decision to remove Viktor Yanukovych from the post of President of Ukraine, under the pretext of removing Yanukovych from office, and called for early elections for the President of Ukraine on May 25, 2014. Two days later, the Prosecutor’s Office opened a criminal case against the former president on charges of Mass killing of civilians and he was declared wanted.
