The Nobel Peace Prize winner has joined the first court hearing in her case via video link and appears to be feeling well. The politician’s lawyer said in an interview with AFP on Monday, March 1.

Aung San Suu Kyi was arrested during a military coup in Myanmar on February 1 and has not been seen since. The country’s military authorities accuse 75-year-old Suu Kyi of failing to comply with anti-coronavirus restrictions and violating export-import laws in connection with the discovery of portable walkie-talkies in her home. Her trial is being held behind closed doors.
Since the coup in Myanmar, mass protests involving hundreds of thousands of people have not subsided. The military is brutally suppressing demonstrations. Just the day before, at least four people were killed in four cities in Myanmar.
US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken has condemned the “disgusting violence” in Myanmar, stressing that the United States is on the side of the Myanmar people.
The UN said on February 28 that at least 18 people had been killed and more than 30 injured in mass protests against the military coup in Myanmar.
