President Volodymyr Zelensky congratulated Lithuania on the 31st anniversary of independence.

March 11th coincides with Independence Day in Lithuania. On this day in 1990, the Verkhovna Rada of the Republic of Lithuania adopted the Law to Restore the Independent State of Lithuania and its withdrawal from the Soviet Union.
Thus, Lithuania became the first Soviet republic to declare its independence. In January 1991, Soviet tanks and special forces were introduced into Vilnius to force Lithuania to abandon the Soviet Union. On January 11-13, a bloody coup attempt took place – during the storming of Vilnius TV Center.
