The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky intends to submit a new bill to the Verkhovna Rada. It is known that the document provides for the return of punishment in the form of restriction or imprisonment for false declaration and failure to file a declaration.
As reported on the website of the Verkhovna Rada, the bill “On Amendments to the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses, the Criminal Code to improve liability for declaring inaccurate information and failure to provide information by the declarant of the declaration of a person authorized to perform state or local government functions” 4651.
The National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption (NAPC) warned Ukrainians about possible temporary restrictions on public access to the Unified Register of e-declarations.
According to the law on the restoration of responsibility for false declarations of corrupt officials can be prosecuted only for 2 years – and this is a very short time. According to the head of the Central Anti-Corruption Authority, the new law on liability for lies provides much milder penalties in declarations than before the scandalous decision of the Constitutional Court.
