In January 2021, Ukraine has a tendency to increase pork imports by 64% compared to the same month in 2020.
In the first month of the year, Ukraine was able to import 1.6 thousand tons of products.
It is noted that the volume of fresh or chilled pork has increased significantly. In the structure of imports, frozen pork occupies – 54%, and fresh or chilled pork – 46%.
The key exporter of these products in the EU market – 77.5% and Canada – 22.5%. Ukraine has an import quota for the EU, which provides for duty-free import of products (20 thousand tons per year).
“The increase in imports may have been influenced by the following factors: in the global market, the main importer, which is China, has closed its borders for exports from Germany due to the ASF outbreak; c ins for pork in the EU are currently lower than in Ukraine; to increase the cost of Ukrainian pork, “- commented the experts.
