On this day the girls prayed to the saint for good bridegrooms.
Tryphon’s Day is celebrated on February 14. According to the church calendar, this day became the date of commemoration of the holy martyr, patron saint of marriage, and family named Tryphon. The preacher gave his life for the idea of faith, making a huge contribution to the development of ancient Orthodoxy. He had eloquence and was able to persuade people, which allowed him to convert many suffering to Christianity.
History of the holiday:
In the 3rd century, in a family of devout Christians living in the Phrygian city of Apamea, the future preacher Tryphon was born in the family of a priest. He was not an ordinary child, in adolescence, he managed to discover God’s gift of healing. He healed with prayers and cast out demons. Religious scriptures indicate the expulsion of rats and insects from the Campus. As a young man, Tryphon turned to the Lord to get rid of the invasion of creeping reptiles, which rapidly destroyed the leaves of trees and crops of peasants. His prayers were heard by the Lord, and an angel descended to earth, who saved the city from pests, which saved the ancient Slavs from starvation.
Later, all the inhabitants of the surrounding towns knew about the unusual possibilities of Tryphon. When the family of Mark Gordian III had an accident involving his daughter Gordian, a girl possessed by the devil, the preacher was immediately taken to the emperor’s penitentiary. He drove the dark force from the emperor’s daughter, forcing her to take the form of a black dog with eerie red eyes. This event forced the imperial family to change their idolatrous views and accept Christianity.
After the change of power in Rome and the accession to the throne of Decius Trajan, Christians were persecuted. Tryphon was subjected to painful torture and eventually sentenced to death for devotion to the faith. The preacher could not stand all the torture and died before the sentence was carried out.
The relics of the great martyr still perform miracles of healing. They were deposited in St. Tryphon’s Cathedral in Qatar.
Traditions and rites:
Tryphon’s Day was widely revered by Bulgarians and Serbs, they considered him the patron saint of winegrowers and hunters, and this was associated with numerous rites and traditions.

There is a belief about Tryphon’s patronage of young families, having played on this wedding day, they were waiting for a strong and long marriage. The hostess was engaged in the expulsion of mice that day.
Some traditions have survived to this day, February 14 unmarried girls turn to divination on the convict:
