Potato company Europlant Pflanzenzucht GmbH has started developing new varieties of fitness fries in an effort to support the trend towards low-carb nutrition. Which caused a real stir among supporters of a healthy lifestyle.
“People who value the low-carb diet now have an alternative,” said Europlant’s managing director, Joerg Renatus.
The innovative varieties of fitness potatoes also have an average relative energy content of at least 30% less than the regular potato. These varieties are grown by qualified farmers specially selected and certified according to German standards “QS” Quality and Security, which is one of the largest food quality control systems in Europe from rural producers to retailers, and it was launched for meat and meat products, and in 2004 the standard was expanded to include Fruit and vegetable supply chain. It is for this reason that products can only attain a “low carbohydrate content” status if the strict requirements of the law are met.
